Ed Maloney

Coach Ed Maloney came to Siena Heights in the spring of 2008. He was hired in as the first Men’s Lacrosse coach in school history. Maloney comes to the Saints with a highly extensive background in both lacrosse as well as athletics in general. He starts his second year leading the Saints in 2011.

Maloney earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Dayton. He went on to earn his Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Coach Maloney began his coaching career as a high school football coach and has 39 years on the sidelines. He began his lacrosse coaching career in 1991 and has served as both a high school and college lacrosse coach.

Throughout his career, Coach Maloney has not only coached lacrosse, but also started four different high school programs from scratch. In 1991 he started his 1st lacrosse program at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights, Michigan. In 1993 with Notre Dame High School in Harper Woods, Michigan. In 1994, he moved on to begin the lacrosse program at Notre Dame Prep High School in Pontiac, Michigan.

Coach Maloney spent a season with the club team at Eastern Michigan University, where he posted a 10-4 overall record. He would have stayed on with the Eagles, however, when Father Gabriel Richard High School, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, came looking for a coach to start their lacrosse program, they didn’t have to look far as Maloney went on to begin their program in his most recent lacrosse experiences.

Coach Maloney’s experiences don’t simply stay on the field, as he has been an athletic director at five high schools: St. Joan of Arc School, St. Claire Shores, Michigan, Gabriel Richard High School, Riverview, Michigan, Croswell-Lexington High School, Croswell, Michigan, Notre Dame Prep High School, Pontiac, Michigan, and Father Gabriel Richard High School, Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Maloney has served in countless capacities with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) throughout his long career. He has been on the Boys Soccer Rules Committee, Girls Volleyball Rules & Site Selection Committee, Boys Lacrosse Committee, and most recently the Girls Lacrosse Committee.

Coach Maloney has made a immeasurable impact on the lives of countless young students throughout his coaching career. He is a well respected coach, who has the admiration of his opponents, his peers and most importantly of his student-athletes. Maloney and his wife, Joan, reside in Dundee, Michigan and have four daughters.

Paul VanThof

VanThof Paul VanThof will join the Saints' coaching staff for the 2013 season. He was a four-year defenseman for Nazareth (N.Y.) of NCAA Division III.

A native of Penfield, N.Y., VanThof graduated from Nazareth in 2011 with a degree in History and concentration in Inclusive Adolescent Education.

During his time at Nazareth, VanThof helped the Godlen Flyers to NCAA Tournament apperances in 2009 and 2011 and an Empire 8 Conference championship in 2009.

Before joining the Saints, VanThof was head coach of the Penfield Middle School Team. He also coached defenders for the Penfield varsity squad.

While at SHU, VanThof will work toward his Master's degree in Education.
