Coach Mike Watkins enters his third season as the head coach of the men’s volleyball program. Coach Watkins is also the head coach for the women’s volleyball program at Siena Heights. He came to Siena Heights in the fall of 2007 to be an assistant for the women’s volleyball team before taking over in the spring of 2009.

From the moment the men’s volleyball program was announced in February of 2008, Coach Watkins diligently worked towards putting a competitive club on the floor in January of 2009. Not only was he able to recruit students who were already in attendance at Siena Heights, but he also brought in a large class of freshmen to make an impact immediately. His hard work paid off as the team had a very successful season of 27-8, including an undefeated home schedule. In their first season competing as a varsity sport, the Saints went 11-12, including a 6-6 mark in a very difficult conference.

Watkins has a vast volleyball background including coaching experience at Adrian College, Adrian High School, and Tecumseh High School.

Coach Watkins works with the Premier Volleyball Club of Toledo. He coaches at the M-Juniors Volleyball Club in Ann Arbor and directs the Excel Volleyball Club at Siena Heights.

Jenny Carlson
Assistant Coach

Coach Carlson is entering her second season on the bench for the Saints after a stellar playing career at cross-town foe Adrian College.

Carlson graduated in 2009 with her bachelor’s degree in interior design. At SHU, she is working towards her master’s degree in organizational leadership.

Coach Carlson had a lot of success at Adrian. She was a 1st Team All-MIAA player as a senior and was a 2nd Team All-MIAA player twice. She is also 2nd in career kills at Adrian.
