Senior Aces Carry Saints to Two Wins Over Lourdes
The Siena Heights Baseball Team travelled to Lourdes for a WHAC doubleheader on Thursday, coming away with a 10-1 and 2-0 win.
In the first game, the Saints put up two runs in the 1st which was enough for Corey Alexander who threw eight innings, allowing one run on six hits with six strikeouts. The Saints added three runs in the 4th to take a 5-0 lead before Lourdes got their lone tally of the day in the bottom of the 4th. SHU tacked on solo runs in the 5th, 6th, and 9th, while also scoring two runs in the 8th. Jake Sperry pitched a perfect 9th to end the game.
Offensively, the Saints pounded out 17 hits with every starter notching at least one hit. Cory Lehman, Josh White, and Corey Caldwell each had three hits for the Saints, Kyle Benschoter and Todd Vandercook each added two hits while Mike Lollo, Tyler Karcher, Alec Duncan, and Chaz Poindexter each had one hit for the Saints. Lehman led the way with four RBI to go along with a double and a triple. Caldwell added two RBI, while Benschoter, White, Duncan, and Poindexter also notched one RBI a piece.
In the second game, the Saints got a stellar outing from Brett Kuebler who went the full seven innings, allowing only four hits and striking out one. Neither team was able to muster much offense with the team combining for only eight hits on the game. White had two hits for the Saints while Benschoter and Vandercook had the other hits for the Saints. The key hit in the game came from Benschoter who rapped a single to rightfield plating White and Marcus Stewart who had reached on a walk for the games' only runs.
With the wins, the Saints move to 18-16 on the season and 6-8 in the WHAC. They will return to action on Saturday when they travel back to Lourdes for a 1 pm doubleheader.
