Widner, Smith Pace SHU Men's XC at National Catholic Meet
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Zach Widner (Detroit, Mich./Weston Prep) placed 31st and Brett Smith (Linden, Mich./Lake Fenton) was 33rd to lead the Siena Heights men's cross country team to a 17th-place finish among 34 teams at the National Catholic Championships at Notre Dame (Ind.).
Widner navigated the 8K course in 25:41 and Smith clocked in at 25:49 for the Saints, who finished with 462 team points. Host Notre Dame won with 31 and was led by the top finisher, Jeremy Rae (24:16).
Also for SHU, Justin Bateson (Blissfield, Mich./Blissfield) finished 73rd in 26:24, Mark Haukereid (Bridgeman, Mich./Bridgeman) took 156th in 27:30 and Justin Henry (Saline, Mich./Saline) was 214th in 28:50 to round out the scoring.
The Saints will compete again on Sept. 28 at the Lansing Invitational.
