Lemm's Hot Hand Guides SHU Men's Hoops to Win over UNOH
ADRIAN, Mich. -- Chris Lemm (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) knocked down 25 points, leading the Siena Heights men's basketball team to a 76-74 win over Northwestern Ohio in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse. The victory snapped the Saints' six-game losing streak.
Lemm, who was 7 of 8 from 3-point land, scored his final four points from the charity stripe as SHU held off the Racers during the final moments.
Cecil Clark (Ferndale, Mich./Ferndale) added 17 points, Vince Schantz (Wyandotte, Mich./Allen Park Cabrini) put in 13 points and Nick Kosovich (Shelby Township, Mich./Romeo) contributed eight assists and seven rebounds to the Saints' effort.
Siena Heights (5-11, 2-3) closed the opening half on a 19-9 run, getting 11 points from Clark and six from Lemm, to take a 38-27 advantage into intermission.
Early in the second, Lemm buried a 3 to give SHU its largest lead at 41-27.
The teams traded runs late in the second.
UNOH (5-10, 1-4) ran off nine consecutive points, trimming its deficit to 58-54. The Saints came back with seven of their own, culminating with three by Lemm to put SHU ahead 65-54 with 8:44 remaining.
The Racers then charged back on a 13-2 stretch, tying the contest at 67-all on a basket by Jon Slagle with 3:52 to go.
Lemm quickly responded for Siena Heights, hitting his last 3-pointer, as the Saints went up 70-67 -- a lead they would not relinquish.
During the final 30 seconds, Lemm made four freebies. On his fifth attempt, with 3.1 seconds left, he missed, but the Racers were unable to get off a final shot in time.
Johnny Elliott led UNOH with 18 points while Wynn scored 12 points and Todd Watkins contributed 11 points and five assists. Dustin Guthrie added nine rebounds and four assists.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a 3 p.m. WHAC matchup at Aquinas.
