Robbins of Zeeland East Signs SHU Baseball Letter of Intent

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Alex Robbins has signed a letter of intent to join the Siena Heights baseball team.

Robbins currently attends Zeeland East High School (Zeeland, Mich.). He is a center fielder and second baseman. In the classroom, he intends to be a Secondary Education major.

Robbins, who bats left-handed and throws right-handed, plays for both ZEHS and the Grand Rapids Flames travel program. In 2011, he batted .296 for the two squads, finishing with a .439 on-base percentage. He led both squads in walks and runs scored.

Robbins also played four seasons of football for Zeeland East and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is the son of Tom and Tracy Robbins.

In his spare time, Robbins enjoys hunting, fishing, snowboarding and golf. He attends Saint Francis de Sales Church.

"I feel like Siena Heights is where I belong," Robbins said. "I liked the school and its mission. I feel comfortable with the program and the coaches; they have an awesome new baseball complex. I am very thankful and honored that I have been blessed with this opportunity. I really appreciated everything that Coach Wyckoff (Zeeland East) and Coach Ed Herrera (Flames) have done to help me as a player and as a person."

Zeeland East baseball coach Shawn Wyckoff is proud of Robbins.

"All of us at Zeeland East are extremely proud of Alex and all of his accomplishments," Wyckoff said. "Siena Heights is getting a hard-working baseball player whose work ethic and passion for the game of baseball cannot be matched by any player that has come through our program. He will be a great asset to the Siena Heights program as he has been for us the past four years."
