SHU Baseball Continues to Struggle with Two Losses at Indiana Tech
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost two games to Indiana Tech, 10-0 and 1-0, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Sunday.
On the day, the Saints managed only four hits -- two singles by Cory Lehman (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) and one single each from Mike Lollo (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini) and Chaz Poindexter (Ypsilanti, Mich./Milan).
Jake Sperry (Livonia, Mich./Westland John Glenn) was the losing pitcher of the 10-0 opener. He allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings of duty. Sperry also had three strikeouts, two walks and a hit batsman.
Nathan Wilkerson (Osseo, Mich./Hudson) threw one scoreless inning and Tyler Butlin (China, Mich./Saint Clair) tossed two-thirds shutout frames.
The Warriors were led by Jake Owens and Ignatius Mackenzie, who had three hits apiece. Andrew Garcia and Eric Wald added homers in support of winning pitcher Eric Zagone. Zagone gave up two hits while finishing with nine strikeouts.
SHU's Matt King (Rockville, Ind./Rockville) was tacked with the loss in the 1-0 game. He surrendered one run on four hits while compiling five strikeouts, two walks and two hit batsman.
Mackenzie went 1-3 with an RBI for Indiana Tech (20-14, 8-4). Aaron Lewellyn was the winning pitcher, finishing with a two-hit, four-strikeout performance.
The Saints (15-16, 4-8) will return to action on Tuesday with a 4 p.m. road game at Trine (Ind.).
