Saints' Men's Hoops Falls at Adrian
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team dropped a 77-67 decision to cross-town rival Adrian at Merillat Gym on Tuesday night.
Chris Lemm (Clinton Township, Mich./Chippewa Valley) led SHU with 12 points while Nick Kosovich (Shelby Township, Mich./Romeo) and Cecil Clark (Ferndale, Mich./Ferndale) put in 10 each. Clark also grabbed seven rebounds.
The Saints (3-4) came out slow in both halves, missing their first 10 field-goal attempts in the first half and then their first eight to start the second.
After falling behind 7-0 to begin the contest, Siena Heights enjoyed a 15-6 stretch -- triggered by a trey from Lemm. Stephen Jones (Fort Wayne, Ind./Carroll) had four points during the streak and Zack Craig (Clayton, Mich./Morenci) hit a pair of 3-pointers -- the second which put the Saints ahead, 15-13.
SHU took its last lead with 5:27 remaining in the first when Kosovich hit a jumper to make the score 21-19. From there, the host Bulldogs went on a six-point run.
Clark made a jumper with 1:10 left in the first, but Adrian (3-1) rattled off five straight points to close the half -- and bridged a 14-3 run across both periods -- to snag a 39-28 advantage with 15:01 remaining.
After that, the Saints pulled within seven points on two occasions, but could not come any closer.
Sean Gallant led Adrian with 24 points and eight rebounds. Eric Lewis added 17 points and seven rebounds while two other double-figure scorers -- Brad Whitby and Adam Meier -- put in 13 and 10 points, respectively. Delano Collins made six assists.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday when they host non-conference opponent Goshen (Ind.). Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
