SHU Men's Hoops Drops Matchup to Aquinas
ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team lost to Aquinas, 82-51, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play at the SHU Fieldhouse on Wednesday.
Cecil Clark (Ferndale, Mich./Ferndale) scored 22 points and Nick Packwood (Southgate, Mich./Inter-City Baptist) contributed 12 points and five rebounds for SHU.
Aquinas dominated the first half, building a 43-20 lead, and never looked back.
Led by Zach Eddy, who scored 18 of his game-high 25 points, the visitors shot .581 from the field in the opening period (18 of 31).
Aquinas (14-13, 10-5) held a 19-12 advantage before closing the half with a 24-8 stretch. During that time, the visitors had runs of 11-1 and 7-0.
On the other side, Siena Heights (6-21, 3-12) struggled mightily in the first, going .222 from the field (6 of 27) including a 2-of-14 performance from 3-point land (.143).
In the second half, the hosts closed their deficit to 22 points, but were unable to pull any closer. Aquinas' largest lead was forged in the final score.
Joe Powers and Ken Gordon contributed 11 points apiece to the Aquinas effort while Tyler Moreland chipped in with 10.
Powers also had five assists, Eddy grabbed nine rebounds and Jake Shockey compiled nine rebounds and eight assists.
Aquinas finished .561 from the field (32 of 57) and outrebounded SHU, 44-29.
Siena Heights will be in action next on Saturday when it visits Cornerstone for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
