SHU Football Lands 20 on Signing Day

The Siena Heights football program signed 20 recruits on Wednesday -- 18 from Michigan high schools, one from Ohio and one from Georgia.

They include:

Burke Hart - DE- 6-2 - 215 - Hudson H.S.Hart and Johnson

Sebastian Johnson - QB - 6-3 - 190 - Adrian H.S.

Nic Acton - QB/SS/ATH - 6-1 - 185 - Battle Creek Pennfield H.S.Nic Acton
Nic Acton is from Battle Creek, Mich., where he was a member of the Panthers' Kalamazoo Valley Athletic Association championship team -- one of the final 16 squads in the 2011 Division 3 state tournament. He intends to be a Criminal Justice major at Siena Heights.

"I picked Siena Heights because the school offers so much," Acton said. "Siena has Sport Management and great academics. They also have great athletics, great coaches and an unbelievable atmosphere."

Tyler Bitz - QB/P - 6-5 - 185 - Erie Mason H.S.

Brandon De La Rosa - WR/TE - 6-2 - 205 - Whitehall H.S.
Brandon De La Rosa is from Whitehall, Mich., where he was an all-conference linebacker for the Whitehall Vikings of the West Michigan Conference.

At Siena Heights, Delph intends to be a Criminal Justice major.

"It felt like home and all the coaches have been welcoming," De La Rosa said of his decision. "I want to be part of a team that will have great success."

Eian Delph - FB - 5-11 - 205 - Petoskey H.S.
Eian Delph is from Petoskey, Mich., where he was a member of the Big North Conference championship team -- a squad that reached the Division 4 state quarterfinals. As a senior at Petoskey, he was an All-Big North Special Mention while, as a junior, he was All-Big North Second Team. Both years, he was named to the all-area team.

At Siena Heights, Delph intends to be a Sport Management major.

"The campus really intrigued me and the coaching staff really know what they're doing," Delph said. "That made me want to go to Siena Heights. The campus is awesome and the facilities are very up to date."

Tyler Dunn - RB/KR - 5-9 - 188 - Wyandotte Roosevelt H.S.
Tyler Dunn is from Wyandotte, Mich., where he was a member of the Bears' 2011 Downriver League championship team -- a squad that reached the Division 2 state quarterfinals. As a senior at Roosevelt, he was an All-Downriver honoree. At Siena Heights, Dunn intends to be a Criminal Justice major.

"I picked Siena Heights to become a successful detective when I graduate or work with the Secret Service," Dunn said. "I like how the housing is set up at Siena Heights and also how the people are welcoming."

Stuart Fielder - OL - 6-5 - 220 - North Branch H.S.

Donald Fleming Jr. - DB - 5-8 - 190 - Mount De Sales Academy (Ga.)

Darryn Gorman - WR - 5-7 - 145 - Grand Ledge H.S.

Darryn Gorman is from Grand Ledge, Mich., where he was a member of the Comets' Capital Area Activities Conference Blue Division championship team -- one of the final 16 squads in the 2011 Division 1 state tournament. He intends to be a Criminal Justice major at SHU.

"I chose Siena Heights because of the many educational programs they offer and their football team is new so it gives me a chance to be part of something great," Gorman said. "Siena Heights has a very nice feel to it. I knew once I stepped on campus that I needed to go there."

Billy Hastings - DT - 6-2 - 260 - Haslett H.S.
Billy Hastings is from Haslett, Mich., where he was a member of the Vikings of the Capital Area Activities Conference Red Division. He intends to be a Business Administration major at SHU.

"I chose Siena Heights because it provided an excellent opportunity to extend my football career and provide the academic framework for my future," Hastings said.

James Johnston - LB - 6-0 - 210 - Toledo Central Catholic H.S. (Ohio)
James Johnston is from Toledo, Ohio, where he was a member of the Fighting Irish's Division II regional semifinalist squad. As a senior, he was an All-Three Rivers Athletic Conference First Team honoree, an all-district performer and an All-Ohio Honorable Mention

At Siena Heights, Johnston intends to be an Education major.

"I picked Siena Heights because I love their coaching staff and campus," he said. "I also liked their family atmosphere."

Brandan Lewis - TE - 6-2 - 210 - Carleton Airport H.S.
Brandan Lewis is from Newport, Mich., and was a member of the Huron League champ Airport Jets. While Airport competed in the 2011 Division 3 state tournament, Lewis was named to All-Huron First Team and and to the all-region team. His classroom performance enabled him to garner Academic All-Huron honors.

Lewis intends to be a Criminal Justice major.

"I picked Siena Heights because I like the coaching staff, I believe the program is going in the right direction and I like the environment," he said. "I also like the facilities at Siena Heights."

Gage Lolley - WR - 5-9 - 160 - Adrian H.S.

Chris Sallee - OL - 6-4 - 290 - Mount Pleasant H.S.
Chris Sallee is from Mount Pleasant, Mich., where he was a member of an Oiler team that won the Saginaw Valley Association championship and appeared in the Division 3 state final. As a senior, he was an All-Saginaw Valley Second Team and all-state performer.

At Siena Heights, Sallee intends to be an Criminal Justice major.

"I picked Siena Heights because of their football program, the size of the school, the curriculum and the staff," he said.

Shane Strawska - LB - 5-11 - 195 - Warren Mott H.S.

Michael Vella - LB/DE - 6-3 - 215 - Hart H.S.
Michael Vella is from Hart, Mich., where he was a member of the Pirates of the West Michigan Conference. In high school, he has been an All-WMC quarterback and linebacker. At Siena Heights, Whitley intends to be a Biology major.

"I love the atmosphere at Siena Heights," he said. "It feels like home when I walk across campus. It is the perfect place for me to continue my career and work toward my new one."

Tim Walters - LB - 6-2 - 180 - Trenton H.S.

Tucker Whitley - OL - 6-2 - 295 - Dexter H.S.
Tucker Whitley is from Dexter, Mich., where he was a member of the Dexter Dreadnaughts of the Southeastern Conference White Division. In high school, he has been a two-time All-SEC performer and three-time Academic All-SEC honoree.

At Siena Heights, Whitley intends to be an Criminal Justice major.

"Siena Heights is a place where I feel like I can make a difference -- both on the field and in the classroom," he said.

Travis Zajkowski - QB - 6-3 -185 - Morley-Stanwood H.S
Travis Zajkowski is from Morley, Mich., where he was a member of the Mohawks of the Central State Activities Association -- a team that played in the Division 6 state quarterfinals. He was an All-CSAA performer.

At Siena Heights, Zajkowski intends to be a Biology major.

"I picked Siena Heights for its career opportunities -- both academically and athletically," he said. "It feels like home and I like the coaches, academics, religion and football."
