Gumbleton Provides Double Overtime Winner

The Men’s Lacrosse team won their second game of the season Sunday.  The Saints went on the road and beat UM-Dearborn 9-8 in double overtime.

Siena Heights took a 4-1 lead in the second quarter.  Then the Saints took a three minute penalty which allowed the Wolves to score two goals.  Another goal by UMD tied the game at four, at halftime.

UM-Dearborn then scored the next two goals taking a 6-4 lead.  Siena Heights tied it up at six before the end of the third quarter.  Back and forth the game went.  SHU took a 7-6 lead, UMD took an 8-7 lead with 5:55 left.  SHU scored to tie the game with 4:12 left in the game.  Then Siena Heights’ Ben lama scored the apparent go-ahead goal from Ryan Gumbleton with 1:04 left.  But the referees took the goal off the board because they said Gumbleton was in the goal crease.  After a scoreless first overtime, Gumbleton proved to be the hero.  He scored the game winning goal with 2:51 remaining in the second overtime.

Gumbleton led the Saints with five goals and two assists.  Tyler Condron added three goals and an assist while Matt Burgess scored a goal as well. Julian Dortman made eight saves in net for the win.

The Saints will now close out their season on Wednesday when they travel to Saginaw Valley State University.
