Coach Sue Syljebeck enters her sixth season as the coach of the Siena Heights University Women’s Basketball Program.

Coach Syljebeck had immediate success when she took over the Saints, leading them to their first winning season, 16-14, in five years. After losing three starters from for ‘04 - ‘05 squad, Coach Syljebeck led a young team with a competitive schedule to six wins in her second season.

The turnaround continued, however, in her third season when Coach Syljebeck led the team to an overall record of 17-13. The 17 wins were the Saints best win total since the team won 27 games in 1978-79, and the second highest in the program’s history. The Saints finished 7-7 in the WHAC and in 5th place.

In her fourth season at the helm, Coach Syljebeck led her team to another double digit win total with a 14-16 record. The 2007-08 team had no returning starters but still had a successful season without the benefit of experience. In 2008-2009, Coach Syljebeck once again hit double digits in wins for the fourth time in five seasons with an 11-20 record.

Coach Syljebeck has seen her win percentage and her career mark at Siena Heights move her up the ranks of coaches into 2nd place in career winning percentage at .427. She also holds the 2nd highest career conference winning percentage with .371 and has moved into 2nd on the total career wins list for the women at 64, the 2nd highest five year total in school history.

Coach Syljebeck came to Siena Heights from a NCAA Division I school, Nicholls State University in Louisiana. At Nicholls State, she was the Associate Head Coach before being promoted to the Interim Head Coach during the 2003-04 campaign. Coach Syljebeck has also coached at Southern Illinois University and the University of New Orleans.

Coach Syljebeck graduated from the University of New Orleans in 1997 with her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Human Performance and Health Promotion. After a successful playing career, she then went on to receive her Master’s of Science degree in Physical Education from Southern Illinois University in 2000.

Debrah Ray

Coach Debrah Ray will enter her seventh season on the bench with the Saints. She is a native of South Carolina where she played basketball at Clemson University. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration from Clemson.

As a Tiger, Coach Ray earned the team’s Best Defensive Player Award as well as the Best Rebounder Award in her career.

Coach Ray also has professional basketball experience as she played in Venezuela for one year and was drafted by the Atlanta Peaches of the WBL.

Coach Ray is also the Head Women’s Golf Coach at SHU. She has coached many youth YMCA teams including junior golf, basketball, and soccer.

Coach Ray resides in Adrian with her husband Ben, and their three children, Christopher, Matthew, and Jordan.

Jori (Pacek) Monnich email

Coach Jori Pacek-Monnich returns to the Saints’ bench for her second season.

Coach Pacek-Monnich graduated with her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Marketing from Davenport University.

While at Davenport, Coach Pacek-Monnich was a forward on the Panthers Basketbell Team for four years.

Coach Pacek-Monnich has coached in AAU within Michigan which will bring experience with those coaches for the recruiting realm.

Coach Pacek-Monnich’s primary responsibilities will be to help develop the post players and help with recruiting. Coach Pacek-Monnich will also be the lead Junior Varsity Coach.

Originally from Chesaning, Coach Pacek-Monnich currently resides in Jonesville, Michigan with her husband Andy. She is working on her Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership.

Coach Pacek was recently married and will be changing her last name to Monnich.

Sara Chrenko

Coach Sara Chrenko will start her fifth season on the bench for the Saints.

This will be Coach Chrenko’s ninth season as a member of the program after a successful four year playing career.

Coach Chrenko has earned both her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Education as well as her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Siena Heights.

Coach Chrenko, who was both a guard and a forward for the Saints during her playing career, also works in the admissions office at Siena Heights as an admissions representative.

Coach Chrenko is originally from Northville, Michigan where she attended Agape Christian Academy.

Coach Chrenko currently resides in Adrian, Michigan.

Laura Panozzo

Laura Panozzo.jpgCoach Laura Panozzo enters her first season on the bench with the Saints. However, she is no new face to the Women’s Basketball Program.

Perhaps the best plsyer to ever don the Siena Heights Uniform, Coach Panozzo stands alone as the only player, male or female to have over 1,800 points and over 1,000 rebounds.

Coach Panozzo graduated in 2007 with her degree in sport management.

Coach Panozzo was a forward for the Saints and holds the single season records in field goals and field goals attempted. She is second in points, rebounds, blocked shots, and points per game.

Coach Panozzo also holds the single game rebounding record and is the career points, field goal, field goals attempted, points per game, and rebounds leader for the Saints.
