hughes-aquinas.jpgThe Siena Heights Women’s Basketball Team held their annual PINK ZONE game in efforts to help the American Cancer Society and came away with an upset over the #25 ranked Aquinas College Saints by a score of 80-67.

In what was a sloppy beginning of the game, both teams combined for 13 turnovers over the first seven minutes of the game en route to 23 turnovers in the half combined.  After swapping leads back and forth, Siena Heights took the lead with about nine minutes left in the half, pushing the lead as high as nine points and settling for an eight point lead at the break 37-29.  Siena Heights came away with a balanced attack in the first half with five different players scoring five points or cassidy aquinas.jpgmore.  Leading the way was Shalaha Hubbard with 11, Nikki Hughes added eight, Erin Cassidy added seven, Chandler Levit added six, and Tanci Levit added five.

In the second half, Aquinas started the half on a 9-2 run, but that was as close as they would get.  Siena Heights used a 44.8% shooting clip in the second half and came away with 43-38 half, creating their final margin of 13 points.

For the game, the Saints were led by Hubbard’s 21 points.  Hughes tied a career high with 18 points, Cassidy added 17 and T. Levit finished with 11.  Cassidy pulled in a hubbard aquinas.jpgdouble-double leading the team with 11 rebounds.  Lauren Crockett led the team with five assists and Cassidy led the team with three steals.  C. Levit led the team in blocks with two.

With the win, the Saints move to 16-10 on the season and 5-5 in the WHAC.  They will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Davenport at 7:30 pm.
