The Siena Heights Women’s Basketball Team built a large lead over Rochester, ended up trailing with just over nine minutes left, and then secured a nine point victory 63-54.
In the first half, the Saints started off the game with a 13-2 run to take a lead. They built a 14 point lead with just over five minutes left and settled for a 10 point halftime lead at 33-23. Shalaha Hubbard continued her hot play with nine first half points while Tanci Levit added eight points in the half. Lauren Crockett was strong early with four assists and three steals in the first half to lead the Saints. The Saints forced Rochester into 15 turnovers in the first half and held Rochester to a 37% shooting clip including a 4-17 effort from three point land.
At the start of the second half, an 14-4 Rochester run brought the game back to a tie at 37 with 15:42 left in the game. A two pointer with 14:32 left in the game gave Rochester their first lead of the night. After back and forth action, Rochester’s three pointer with nine minutes left gave the Warriors a three point lead. However, Chandler Levit was fouled, made the basket and the free throw then Hubbard came back with a three pointer of her own to give the Saints a three point lead again. This time, they would not relinquish the lead the rest of the night, securing the nine point win 63-54. The Saints did their work at the charity stripe, shooting a perfect 8-8 in the first half and 11-15 in the second half.
On the night, Hubbard led both teams with 14 points, followed by T. Levit with 12 points and C. Levit with 10 points. Nikki Hughes came off the bench to lead the Saints with eight rebounds and one block while Crockett ended the night with six assists and four steals to lead the team.
With the win, the Saints move to 5-2 on the season. They will return to action on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Kentucky for the Georgetown University Tournament. They will place Rio Grande on Friday and Georgetown on Saturday. They will return home on Thursday December 10th for a JV and Varsity doubleheader starting at 5:30.
