Jake DeRoeckâs rebound-basket with 1.1 seconds on the clock propelled the Saints to a 79-77 victory over Malone College. The 19th ranked Saints were down four points at halftime and down nine with fewer than four minutes to play. Then with just over two minutes left to play the Saints were down 77-70 and went on a 9-0 run to win the game in regulation. The biggest two shots were a field goal by Courtney Smith at the one minute mark to tie the game, and the rebound basket by DeRoeck to win it. In recapping the winning sequence; Mark Snipes had the ball in his hands after a timeout at the 15 second mark. Snipes drove the lane and missed the lay-up. DeRoeck found the rebound, readjusted his shot, and made the four-footer for the win.
Brent Reynolds led Siena Heights in scoring with 19 points. Reynolds also led everyone in steals with six. Snipes added 17 points, while Smith threw in twelve. Rounding out the Saints double-digit scorers was Logan Mathews with ten.
The Saints pulled out the win despite being out rebounded 40-31 and outshot 11-6 from three point range. Siena Heights was able to force 21 turnovers on the night, while they only committed nine.
Siena Heights improves to 9-1 overall and will host Goshen College on Saturday night at 7:30.
