The Siena Heights Women's Basketball Team beat Purdue-Calumet in convincing fashion with a 76-61 win.
After a slow first few minutes of the game, where the Saints found themselves down only three thanks to poor shooting by Purdue-Calumet, the Saints took over and built as high as a 14 point lead, which led to a 11 point halftime margin of 33-22. In the first half, the Saints held the Peregrines to only 19.5% from the floor, including 8.3% from behind the arc.
In the second half, back and forth action from both teams made for an up tempo half with a lot more scoring, but once again the Saints came out on the top end with a 43-39 margin for the final score of 76-61.
The Saints had strong days from each of their five starters, with four of five scoring in double digits, with the fifth putting in nine points. Shalaha Hubbard led the team with 21 points followed by Erin Cassidy with 18 points. Chandler Levit had 13 points while Tanci Levit added 12. Lauren Crockett chipped in nine points and almost single handedly broke the Purdue Calumet press in the first half. Cassidy pulled in the double-double leading the Saints with 14 rebounds. T. Levit led the team with five assists, while Hubbard led the team with four steals and C. Levit led the team with two blocks.
With the win, the Saints move to 10-3 on the season. They are off to their best start since the 1979-1980 season. After a break for the Christmas holiday, the Saints will return to action on Sunday, December 27th when they play at the St. Xavier Tournament. Their first game will be against St. Francis (IL).
On another note, with the win today, the Saints Athletic Department completes the months of November and December undefeated on their home turf. The Women's Soccer Team won their two home games in November, the Women's Basketball Team has won their seven home games this year, and the Men's Basketball Team has won their four home games this season.
