The Siena Heights Basketball Team finally lost their first home game of the year when they fell by a score of 70-54 to Cornerstone.
In the first half, the game went back and forth with Cornerstone holding the advantage in the first five minutes and the Saints holding the advantage in the second five minutes. At the ten minute mark, the game was tied at 13. However, a 7-0 run over the next three minutes proved to be too much for the Saints to claw back from. Cornerstone shot 44% from the floor in the first half compared to only 28% from the Saints and although the Saints cut the deficit to three points, the Golden Eagles built the margin back to six points, 34-28 at the halftime break.
In the second half, a 21-8 run to start the half all but ended the game. Once again the Saints shot poorly from the field while Cornerstone had many easy lay-ins or uncontested open looks. For the game, the Saints shot only 25.7% while allowing a 43.9% from the Golden Eagles.
Leading the way for the Saints was Shalaha Hubbard with 18 points. However, the Saints best player on the floor was Erin Cassidy who had 16 points and 18 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games and fourth on the season. Cassidy also led the team with four steals. Lauren Crockett and Tanci Levit each had three assists for the Saints.
With the loss, the Saints fall to 14-8 on the season and 3-3 in the WHAC. They will return to action when they travel to UM-Dearborn on Wednesday night to end the first half of WHAC play. They Saints will return home again on February 3rd to host Concordia at 7:30 pm.
