ADRIAN, Mich. – Garnet Potter netted the overtime goal to give the Siena Heights men's lacrosse team a 10-9 victory over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent, No. 8 Lawrence Tech, on Saturday.
Lawrence Tech opened the scoring with 13:25 on the clock in the first quarter. SHU answered with a Potter goal with 11:16 on the clock to tie it. The Saints scored two more time while LTU manage to put three in to hold a 4-3 lead at the end of the first quarter.
To open the second quarter, Lawrence Tech tacked on two goals to earn a 6-3 lead over the Saints. SHU responded with a Ryan Mamo goal only for LTU to score again. The Saints tacked on two more as they trailed 6-7 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Saints scored three times, only allowing one goal from the Blue Devils as SHU went into the fourth quarter with a 9-8 lead. The lone goal of the fourth quarter was scored by LTU (6-5, 2-3 WHAC) with 00:21 seconds left on the clock, sending the game into overtime.
A couple penalties were in place for SHU and LTU but it didn't stop the Saints as Garnet Potter scored with 3:12 on the clock in overtime to give Siena Heights the overtime victory.
Leading the Saints (9-2, 3-2 WHAC) with four goals was Potter, while Orr and Mamo each scored twice. Alex Gilbert and Danny Kreitzer both scored a solo goal for SHU. Travis Byrd wen 11-of-20 in the faceoff circle, earning nine groundballs for SHU.
Tristan Burkhard led the Blue Devils with four goals as Justin Light netted two. Scoring solo shots was Jacob Flood, Brendan Oles and Dylan Couture. Austin McKee managed 9-of-17 faceoff.
Earning the win in goal for the Saints was Tyler Hooper, making seven saves. In goal for LTU was Joel Trent, taking the loss with 12 saves.
Next up, Siena Heights will host No. 10 Aquinas in a 7 p.m. WHAC contest, on Wednesday.
