The Siena Heights men's soccer team was chosen to finish eighth in the 2020 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the league office on Wednesday morning. The Saints finished eighth in the WHAC standings last season with a 4-6-1 record in conference play.
The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the league from 1-12. 12 points are given to the team at the top of the list, 11 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.
Three-time champion UNOH topped the rankings, receiving 136 points. UNOH finished second in the league last season with an 8-1-2 league record. Indiana Tech won the 2019 WHAC Conference Championship and finished the season with a 10-0-1 league record. They received 135 points to take the second spot in the poll. Madonna leads the WHAC with 10 conference championships and received 125 points for third. Lawrence Tech had 104 points for fourth. Aquinas (94 pts.) was fifth while Cleary fell in sixth with 83 points. Concordia (Mich.) (65 pts.) edged Siena Heights (56 pts.) for the seventh-place ranking. Lourdes was ninth with 47 points followed by UM-Dearborn (35 pts.) and Rochester (30 pts). Cornerstone rounded out the poll with 26 points.
The Saints kick off the 2020 season on October 3rd with a home conference game against Indiana Tech at 12:00 p.m.
