ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team fell 3-1 to sixth-ranked Lourdes (Ohio) in conference action, on Friday. Set scores were 25-17, 12-25, 19-25 and 25-27.
The Saints (10-4, 2-2) came off to a quick start with a 9-3 lead and cruising to a first set victory. In set two, the Saints fell flat, allowing a ten-point run by the Gray Wolves for the win.
The third and fourth games were heavily contested. SHU and LU in a point-deadlock until Lourdes pulled away from the 18-18 tie. The Saints again kept the score tight in the final set, but were unable to capitolize as LU took the 27-25 match victory.
Leading the Saints was Matthew Dugan and Tyler Hubbard-Neil with 11 kills each, adding nine and six digs, respectively. Dugan also added eight blocks for Siena Heights. Emilier DeJesus tallied ten digs and three aces for SHU as Keegan Crawford earned 31 assists.
For the Gray Wolves (13-4, 4-0), Evan Gebert ended the match with 25 kills and seven digs. Ryan Maune and Zachary Hawkins each tallied 11 kills while Ryan Ferkel earned 49 assists. Defensively, Eric Ubior and CJ Riveria each had 19 digs.
Each team ended the match with 10 service errors. The Saints earned a hitting percentage of .121 while the Gray Wolves went .248. SHU bested LU with 24 total blocks to 14, but Lourdes earned 70 digs to Siena's 40.
Siena Heights will be back in action on Saturday when the Saints take on Graceland (Iowa) and Robert Morris (Ill.) in Chicago, Ill. First serve is set for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. CST, respectively.
