KANSAS CITY -- Siena Heights senior libero Emilier De Jesus (Chesterton, Ind.) was named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) All-America second team. The national office announced the All-America teams Friday morning (April 10, 2020).
De Jesus adds this honor to his resume that already boasts a selection to the All-WHAC first team and an NVA/AVCA All-America Honorable Mention award. He tallied his second WHAC defensive player of the week to his career and was also selected the NAIA men's volleyball defensive player of the week (the second of his career) this season. He finished the 2020 year leading the nation in total digs (290) and digs per game (3.77). The 2019 WHAC Libero of the Year finished his career atop the SHU career records list in digs (932) and digs per set (3.60). He is also third all-time in service aces (102) and fourth in service attempts (1002).
"I am thrilled that Emilier has been honored as an All-American," said head coach Kim Berrington. "He has been so driven to become the best! He is the most coachable guy in the gym, watches the most film, and plays wherever he can all summer long. He has put in the time and effort! In addition, he will be the first person in his family to be a college graduate. It hasn't been easy, he's had to overcome a lot of obstacles, but he will walk across that stage! I'm proud of him in so many ways!".
