Softball Splits Again in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team split its two games on Wednesday, claiming a 7-3 win over Morningside (Iowa) before falling to Great Falls (Mont.), during the Tucson Invitational Games.

Taylor Heisler batted 3-for-4 with four RBI to lead the Siena Heights offense. Megan Jones scored two runs and Kelsie Abbott doubled.

Abbott was the winning pitcher in the circle. She gave up two earned runs and seven hits while recording five strikeouts and one walk.

After Morningside took a 1-0 lead in the second inning, Heisler provided a two-run single in the fourth. Morningside tied the contest at 2-all in the fourth.

The Saints (5-2) then enjoyed a five-run fifth inning, taking the lead on a Tayler Hayes squeeze bunt which scored Mariah Boss. Bitty Treece, who had three sacrifice bunts in the game, ripped an RBI single and then Heisler knocked another two-run single. A third run occurred on the Heisler play, extending SHU's advantage to 7-2.

The Mustangs scored their third and final run in the seventh to finish off the game's scoring.

The Saints' loss to Great Falls ended after five innings. Abbott and Hayes had hits for the Saints.

Great Falls scored two runs in the second inning, five in the third and one in the fourth.

Stephanie Tylicki was the losing pitcher.

The Saints will return to action on Friday with three games.
