DETROIT, Mich. -- Alexxis Knannlein had 15 points off the bench while three other Siena Heights scorers reached double-figures as the 24th-ranked Saints' women's basketball team defeated Marygrove, 96-43, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Wednesday. SHU has now won seven straight games.
SHU opened the game with a 23-2 run, including 15 consecutive points, before Kierra Jordan converted Marygrove's first field goal -- a layup 8:55 into the game. Warfield had six points on a pair of 3-pointers while Mackenzie Tomasik chipped in five points during the Saints' initial charge.
Siena Heights eventually closed the first on a 10-0 streak to secure a 49-14 halftime lead. During that period, the Saints held Marygrove to a 12.5-percent performance from the field (4 of 32).
For the game, SHU went 31 of 63 from the field (49.2 percent) and 9 of 19 from 3-point land (47.4 percent). The Saints aalso held a 52-33 rebounding advantage.
SHU's smallest second-period lead was 29 points while its largest -- 53 -- was indicated in the final score.
Adrienne Weaver led Marygrove (2-14, 0-9) with nine points while Breomi Jackson hauled down nine rebounds.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a 5:30 p.m. WHAC matchup against Michigan-Dearborn. The contest will also serve as SHU's annual "Pink Game."
