DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – The 16th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team made a late second-half push to defeat Michigan-Dearborn, 77-69, in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday. SHU has now won 17 of its last 18 contests.
Leading scorer Grace Howrigon tallied 23 points which led Saints (22-6, 15-5). Mackenzie Tomasik and Alexxis Knannlein both racked up 16 points, while Sierra Calhoun added 12 points. Howrigon also added team-highs in rebounds and assists with eight and six, respectively.
Celebrating Senior Night, the Wolverines (3-23, 2-18) fought hard all game and refused to go down without a fight. Brittany Teets led the Wolverines with 21 points. Jalissa Williams contributed 20 points while Danielle Cowart and Andrea Collins both chipped in 11 points.
Cowart sparked the Wolverines in the first half when she scored all of her 11 points while fellow senior, Teets, scored 13 of her 21 points in the second half.
The Wolverines held the lead until the 8:26 mark of the second half when the Saints gained a 51-50 edge. The Saints never let go of their lead as they outscored the Wolverines, 26-19, the rest of theway.
The Saints are back in action on Wednesday as they go on the road to face WHAC opponent Lourdes (Ohio).
