SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- Mackenzie Tomasik had a double-double consisting of 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead the 16th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team to a 52-39 non-conference victory over Spring Arbor on Thursday.
Tomasik was a perfect 8-for-8 from the field and 5 of 8 from the free-throw line for the Saints (1-0), who used a 12-point run late in the first half to take the lead for good.
With the contest tied at 8-all, Siena Heights scored 12 consecutive points, getting four from Calhoun and four from Tomasik. The Saints' defense ramped it up as well, forcing 11 Spring Arbor turnovers during that stretch.
From there, SHU took a 22-10 lead into halftime and held off the Cougars.
Aimee Konkel led host Spring Arbor (1-4) with 13 points while Kylie Townsley grabbed 11 rebounds.
Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with its Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Confernce opener at Marygrove.
