ADRIAN, Mich. -- Sierra Calhoun poured in 29 points, but the 16th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team dropped a 73-65 decision NAIA Division I opponent Central Methodist (Mo.) in the SHU Thanksgiving Tournament championship game on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.
CMU (6-0) scored the game's first six points, getting three-pointers from Chelsea Pannier and Morgan Vetter, and led the entire way.
The visiting Eagles twice pushed their lead to 16 points -- once in the first half and once during the second.
On two occasions, the Saints cut their deficit to seven, but both times, Central Methodist converted three-point plays to widen the gap back to double-digits.
Morgan Vetter was CMU's leading scorer, finishing with 21 points, while Tournament MVP Jesse Ellis finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Also for the Eagles, Taylor Cornelison scored 12 points and Kyra Williams hauled down 11 boards. CMU is ranked 25th in NAIA Division I.
In Saturday's consolation game, Rochester defeated Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.), 81-72.
The Warriors (5-9) were led by Jamie Highstreet, who compiled a double-double worth 25 points and 10 rebounds. Tiffany Misch had 19 points and Erica Schwartz dished 10 assists.
China Cordova led the Crimson Wave (2-9) with 19 points and six steals while Dariyan Morris finished with 19 points and five steals. Also for CCSJ, Latoi Merriweather scored 19 points and Sidnica Esco grabbed nine rebounds.
All-Tournament Team honorees were CMU's Ellis and Cornelison, SHU's Calhoun and Morgan Warfield, Rochester's Highstreet, and CCSJ's Merriweather.
Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference game at Davenport.
