ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball game hosted Defiance in a non-conference contest on Monday. The Saints took the victory, 84-55 and improve it's record to 7-7 overall.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first bucket of the game and jumped out to a 7-0 lead early in the first period. SHU fought back and brought the score to within one with five seconds to go in the first. 25 seconds into the second quarter, Siena Heights grabbed the lead on a layup made by Taylar McNeal. Midway through the third, Siena Heights went on an 8-0 run to grab a 38-30 lead and remained in control for the rest of the way.
Taylar McNeal led the Saints in scoring off the bench with 16 points, also adding nine rebounds and three steals. Five other Saints scored in double-figures -- Azalea Miller (14), Addyson Tomczak (12), Sharmaine Wills (11), Clara Waidley (10) and Demi Russell (10). Wills recorded a double-double leading the team with 11 rebounds to go with her 11 points. Miller and Waidley each dished out five assists.
From the floor, Siena Heights cashed in on 31-71 attempts (43.7%), 8-19 from three (42.1%) and 14-18 (77.8%) from the free throw line. Defiance finished 19-58 (32.8%), 7-28 (25%) from behind the arc and 10-12 (83.3%) from the charity stripe.
Next up, the Saints will travel to Governors State (Ill.) for a non-conference contest on Wednesday, Dec. 20. Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
