The Siena Heights women's basketball team completed it's regular season schedule on Saturday with a victory over Madonna. With the conclusion of regular season play, the Saints will enter the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament this week as the seventh seed.
On Thursday, Feb. 22, SHU will take on the second seed, No. 19 Lawrence Tech. LTU will host the contest with a tip off scheduled for 7 p.m. The Blue Devils finished regular season play with a 24-5 overall record and a 16-4 WHAC record. The Saints ended 18-12 overall and 11-9 in the WHAC.
Siena Heights dropped both match-ups with Lawrence Tech this season, falling 65-46 on Dec. 9th and 70-57 on Jan. 27.
From the floor, the Saints are averaging 65.1 points per game and shooting 39.2% from the floor. From three point range, SHU has connected on 30.2% of it's attempts and 62.6% from the free throw line. Lawrence Tech averages 72.8 points per game, shooting 40.2% from the field, 31.1% from three and 76.8% from the charity stripe.
Admission to the WHAC Tournament games will be $7 for adults, $5 for seniors/students with ID and free for children 8 and younger.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Demi Russell leads the Saints offensively averaging 10.4 points per game with Alyssa Larson following close behind with 10 points per contest. Larson also leads Siena Heights with 7.8 rebounds per game and 1.2 blocks. Azalea Miller dishes out a team high 3.9 assists per contest.
Lawrence Tech is led by Nicole Buckingham who averages 17.3 points per game and Hayley Walkowski adding 14.2. Buckingham leads with 1.6 steals per game and Walkowski leads the Blue Devils in rebounds averaging 6.5 per contest. Cherilyn Banas contributes 3.9 assists per game while Rachel Price leads LTU with 1.7 blocks.
The winner of the quarterfinal contest between Siena Heights and Lawrence Tech, will advance to the semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 24.
