Women's Lacrosse Enters WHAC Tournament Play As Third Seed On Friday

The sixth ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team will enter Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament play on Friday, April 27. All WHAC tournament games will be hosted by the No. 1 seed, Indiana Tech. The first semifinal contest will feature, No. 4 Aquinas will face off against No. 1 Indiana Tech at 5 p.m. In the second semifinal contest, No. 3 Siena Heights will face off against No. 2 Lawrence Tech at 7 p.m. 

SHU finished the regular season with the third seed, an overall record of 13-3 and a conference record of 4-2. Siena Heights finished in a three way tie with Lawrence Tech and Aquinas, and landed in the third spot after using the tie breaker of goals allowed. All three teams were 4-2 in WHAC regular season play.

The Saints are led by Jenna Sommerville with 61 goals. Marissa Cirino and Taylor Swartz have been able to help offensively for Siena Heights, scoring 41 and 40 goals respectively. Cirino leads the way with 30 assists while Swartz has chipped in another 20. SHU has been able to rely on two goalies who have each started eight contests. Mariah Smythe finished the regular season with a record of 5-2 and a save percentage of 47.1%. Lizzy Elliott finished 4-1 with a 52.3% save percentage and a team best, 81 saves.

Lawrence Tech finished 11-4 overall on the season and a number three national ranking. Isabelle Vickers and Anna Gagnon with 54 and 51 goals scored respectively. Ashley Collins completed the regular season with a team high, 65 assists. Goal Keeper, Mary Klonowski is 6-2 on the season and has allowed 85 goals and made 77 saves for a save percentage of 47.5%.

The winner of the Siena Heights vs. Lawrence Tech semifinal, played at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 27, will face off against the winner of No. 4 Aquinas vs. No. 1 Indiana Tech.
