ADRIAN, MICH. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team shut out Saint Francis (Ind.) on Wednesday night with a 2-0 final score. Marissa Young (Freshman, Genoa, Ohio) scored one of two Saints goals in the winning effort.

Final Score: Siena Heights 2, Saint Francis (Ind.) 0

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium)

Records: Siena Heights (4-2-1), Saint Francis (Ind.) (2-4-2)

The Saints were sharp from the opening whistle, controlling possession and setting up scoring opportunities early. They wasted no time as Young found the back of the net after beating out a Cougar defender to give them the 1-0 lead in the 2:11 minute. The Saints had a series of shots from a corner kick on Saint Francis goalie, Sarah Lewis (L, 1-4-2), but were unable to connect in the 7th minute. Saint Francis had their only scoring opportunity from a corner kick but it was punched out by SHU goalie Kara Bishop (W, 2-0-1) in the 27:52 minute. The Saints would continue to pound shots on goal but missed the mark as they went wide, hit the crossbar, or would be saved. The final push for the Cougars to tie the game came up short and SHU would head to the locker room with the 1-0 lead. The Saints edged Saint Francis 14 shots to two and four corner kicks to one in the first half.

The Saints kept knocking on the door as they continued to put up shots and had four scoring opportunities but failed to find the back of the net. Their luck changed when Magali Romero (Senior, Asuncion, Paraguay) scored off a pass in front of the box from Haylie Curtiss (Junior, Allegan, Mich,) in the 86:58 minute. The Cougars were unable to capitalize on their changes as SHU's defense only allowed them to record two shots on goal and would earn the win. The Saints recorded 16 shots and five corner kicks in the second half.

• Young and Romero each had a goal.

• Curtiss had an assist.

• Bishop made three saves between the pipes for the Saints.

• Brey Baltazar recorded two shots.

• Ellen Weikert and Cassidy McAfee each recorded a shot.

• Lewis made thirteen saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Saints will open WHAC play against Cornerstone on Wednesday, September 25th. The game is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 p.m. EDT.
