ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team opens up the 2020 fall season at home against Indiana Tech this Saturday, October 3 at 4:00 PM. The Saints finished the 2019 campaign fourth in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings with an 8-3 record in league play and a 12-6-1 overall mark. The WHAC coaches chose Siena Heights to finish fourth again in 2020 earlier this month in the preseason poll.
The Saints return 2019 second-team All-WHAC recipient Macy Llewellyn (senior, LaPorte, Ind.), Ashley Strong (senior, Howell, Mich.), and Marissa Young (sophomore, Genoa, Ohio) for this season. Llewellyn finished last year with starts in every game in 2019. She scored one goal with 16 shots on goal. Strong tied for the second-most points on the team with eight (3g, 2a) with 13 shots on goal. One of her goals was the game-winner over UM-Dearborn. Young had a great debut for SHU as she totaled seven points (3g, 1a), including her first career game-winning goal against Saint Francis (Ind.). Along with the returning student-athletes from a year ago, Siena Heights added depth to the roster with a 14-member freshman class.
The fall 2020 season will feature four games for the 2020 Saints women's soccer squad. The first three matches will take place from the comfort of home as the Warriors visit this Saturday followed by Lourdes the following Saturday (Oct. 10). On Saturday, October 17, Siena will host Concordia (Mich.) before ending the fall slate at Cornerstone on Friday, October 23. SHU will return to action in the spring season, February 2021.
Due to COVID-19 protocols in place at Siena Heights University, there will be no spectators admitted to any Saint athletic events this fall season. Fans can catch the video stream of games on the SHU Saints YouTube page or follow the live stats for all home games that are linked on the schedule page.
