SHU Women's Volleyball's Five-Match Streak Snapped by IT

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team had its five-match winning streak snapped as it suffered a 3-1 loss at Indiana Tech in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Wednesday.

Mycala Cherry had 11 kills while Carly Tillotson compiled 24 assists and five aces for the Saints, who lost by scores of 25-17, 26-28, 25-15, 25-16.

Julia Haupricht added eight kills, Nicole Morgan made 23 digs and Chelsea Doyle contributed three total blocks.

Indiana Tech (10-16, 4-2) led for much of the first set to take an early 1-0 lead before SHU claimed a thrilling second set.

In the second, the Saints (11-6, 4-2) trailed 9-3 at one point, but an eventual eight-point run helped SHU takes its first lead of the set. Tillotson had three aces while Cherry smacked two kills during the charge.

The Saints had Indiana Tech down to set-point on two occasions; the Warriors battled back and then had SHU on the ropes at 26-25 before the visitors rattled off three straight points.

The Warriors took command in the third set after falling behind early, 3-0. They went on a 12-2 streak, including nine straight points, to build a comfortable lead.

The fourth set included a 7-1 Indiana Tech run and the hosts held that lead the rest of the way.

The Warriors were led by Suzanne Taylor, who finished with 15 kills. Kelsey Fitzpatrick added 23 assists and Taylor Kelso finished with 22 digs.

The Saints will be in action this weekend when they take part in the Saint Francis (Ill.) Big Guns Classic.
