Women's Volleyball Opens Up With Two Wins

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team opened its season with a pair of victories on Friday at the Saint Xavier/Trinity Christian Crossover in action at Saint Xavier (Ill.).

The Saints defeated Roosevelt (Ill.), 3-1, and then swept William Penn (Iowa), 3-0.

Against Roosevelt, SHU won by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-19, 25-15. Rachel Cornish and Leze Vukaj finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively.

Carly Tillotson added 38 assists and 14 digs while Nicole Morgan contributed 12 digs.

For Roosevelt, Vanessa Owusu had 18 kills, Emily Bejma made 17 assists, and Arielle Nausieda had 20 digs.

In the win over William Penn, Vukaj led the way with 11 kills and Halie Baker put down 10 kills. Tillotson added 38 assists and Morgan made 16 digs.

Kylie Giger was the leader for WP, finishing with 14 kills and 11 digs. Emily McHugh made 29 assists.

The Saints (2-0) will return to action on Saturday with a pair of matches at Trinity Christian (Ill.). Opponents include Saint Francis (Ill.) and Mount Mercy (Iowa).
