Women's Volleyball Drops WHAC Opener at #24 Davenport

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Emily Abbs had 10 kills while Carly Tillotson contributed 37 assists and 11 digs during the Siena Heights women's volleyball team's 3-1 loss to 24th-ranked Davenport in Wednesday's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener for both squads.

Halie Baker, Rachel Cornish and Alexis McIntosh added eight kills apiece for the Saints (3-2, 0-1), who won the first set, 25-21, before dropping the next three, 25-10, 25-21, 25-19.

Nicole Morgan added 17 digs, Baker made 10 digs and Leze Vukaj compiled seven total blocks.

SHU broke a 19-all tie in the first set, closing with a 6-2 run.

Davenport (2-3, 1-0) then responded with a solid second set, which it finished with eight consecutive points.

In the third, the host Panthers charged to an a 12-4 lead and held the rest of the way. The Saints pushed their way back to 24-21 before DU won the set.

During the fourth, Davenport broke a 5-5 knot with five straight points and then led through the final point.

Krissy Dill had 13 kills and 10 digs for Davenport. Hanna Stone added 11 kills and seven total blocks, Morgan Torres made 16 digs, and Amber Getty finished with 43 assists and three aces.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, when they visit WHAC opponent Northwestern Ohio for a 7 p.m. start.
