Women's Volleyball Stretches Win Streak to Four

DETROIT, Mich. -- Halie Baker had 12 kills while Carly Tillotson contributed eight kills and 35 assists to lead the Siena Heights women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory against Marygrove in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Friday. With the win, the Saints have won four straight matches and six of their last seven.

Leze Vukaj added nine kills and Nicole Morgan made 18 digs for the Saints (9-5, 5-3), who rebounded from a first-set loss to finish with a 24-26, 25-8, 25-19, 25-23 decision.

Also on defense, Mycala Cherry had 16 digs, Haley Mercy contributed 12 digs and Tillotson finished with 11 digs. Emily Abbs chipped in with five total blocks.

The Saints had runs of five and four points in the opening set before the host Mustangs closed with an 8-3 stretch to take an early lead.

Siena Heights answered swiftly in the second, charging out to a 9-1 lead. During the set, SHU had a 6-point run and two 4-point runs.

The squads traded blows in the third until the Saints emerged with a 2-1 advantage.

Then, in the fourth, the Saints charged ahead early with a 6-point run, but the Mustangs came back with a 10-3 stretch to take a 21-18 lead. At 23-20, Siena Heights rattled off five consecutive scores to end the match.

Ashley Murphy and Kiara Cobbs had 12 and 10 kills, respectively, for Marygrove (4-14, 1-9). Hailey Jury dished 22 assists and Kara Kempinski tallied 22 digs.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday with another WHAC match when they travel to Indiana Tech for a 1 p.m. start.
