The Siena Heights women's volleyball team was chosen to finish seventh in the 2020 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Preseason Coaches Poll that was released by the league office on Monday. The preseason poll has the Saints improving on their position from the 2019 standings as the team finished in the eighth spot of the WHAC standings with a 7-13 record in conference play.
The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the WHAC from 1-11. Eleven points are given to the team at the top of the list, 10 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.
Madonna, last year's runner up in both the regular season and WHAC tournament, was slated first in the poll with four first-place votes and 114 points. The Crusaders narrowly edged Aquinas (who had six first-place votes and 113 points) for the top spot. Indiana Tech was third with 94 points and Cornerstone finished with 89 points for fourth. The 2019 regular season and tournament champion, Lawrence Tech, earned one first-place vote and 74 points to claim the fifth spot. Lourdes tallied 71 points for sixth and Siena Heights totaled 52 for seventh. UNOH registered 38 points for eight followed by Concordia (Mich.) in ninth with 29 points. Rochester and UM-Dearborn rounded out the list by tying in 10th with 26 points.
The Saints won't compete until the Spring 2021 season due to the coronavirus pandemic. Continue to follow SHUSaints.com for updates on schedules, rosters, and news from all Siena Heights athletic teams.
