Payne, Heldmeyer Guide SHU Women to Second Place at OCC

OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. -- Lyndsay Payne (Perry, Mich./Perry) and Beth Heldmeyer (Plymouth, Mich.) placed second and third, respectively, to lead the Siena Heights women's cross country team to a second-place finish at the Oakland Community College Invitational on Saturday.

Payne crossed the line in 19:16 and Heldmeyer clocked in at 19:20 for the Saints on a muddy 5K course as runners battled 35 mile-per-hour winds.

Other scorers for SHU were Melanie Glinski (Adrian, Mich./Sand Creek), who placed 10th in 20:33; Harmony Mead (Coldwater, Mich./Coldwater), who was 11th in 20:50; and Sarena Anderson (Ida, Mich./Ida), who crossed 13th in 21:08.

Carrie Zubke (Adrian, Mich./Madison) added a 14th-place finish with a time of 22:20 and Kelly Ferguson (Perrysburg, Ohio/Perrysburg) took 16th in 22:36 for the Saints, who -- with 39 points -- finished behind Wayne State (23) and ahead of Oakland CC (95) and Concordia (102).

The Saints will compete again next Saturday at the Great Lakes Invitational in Grand Rapids, Mich.
