The following was printed on DeShawn Gilbert's Hall of Fame Plaque.
DeShawn Gilbert was a defensive back for the Saints from 2012 to 2015. In 2013, Gilbert became the first Saints defensive player to be named an NAIA All-American, earning Second Team honors. He was also named MSFA Mideast Defensive Player of the Year, becoming the first Saint to receive a Player of the Year award. Additionally, Gilbert earned First Team All-MSFA Mideast honors in 2013.
Gilbert’s name appears throughout the SHU record books. He was a key member of the 2014 MSFA Mideast Championship Team. Gilbert finished his career first in interceptions (11), second in interception return yards (150), second in interception return touchdowns (2), second in passes defended (33), and fourth in unassisted tackles.
In 2013, Gilbert set SHU single-season records for interceptions (6), interception return yards (110), and passes defended (15)—records that still stand today.
