The 1989–90 Siena Heights University men’s basketball team posted a remarkable 29–7 overall record, tying for the fifth-most wins in school history. After opening the season 11–6, the Saints surged to an 18-game winning streak before their run ended in the final game of the season—an upset loss as the No. 8 seed at the NAIA National Championship Tournament.

Siena Heights earned its national tournament berth by capturing the District 23 championship as the tournament’s No. 1 seed. During the season, the Saints also claimed the Milk Jug rivalry trophy in the Battle of Adrian, extending a dominant stretch that included 15 consecutive Milk Jug victories.

William Clyburn, Brian Dettling, and Mark Merriman were all named First Team All–District 23. Merriman received NAIA Honorable Mention All-American recognition, while Dettling earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors.

The roster featured six future Hall of Famers—Brian Dettling, Jemile Green, Ronald Hopkins III, Bernard Loudermill, Mark Merriman, and Craig Tanis—and was guided by Hall of Fame coaches Fred Smith and Al Sandifer.
