THOMASVILLE, Ga. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a doubleheader with Thomas (Ga.) on Monday, dropping the first game, 8-0, before winning the second contest, 5-4, in nine innings.
The Saints managed six hits in the opener with Mike Lollo and Drew Byers leading the way with 2-for-3 games.
Jordan Basinger was SHU's starting pitcher, giving up two runs on four hits. He had two strikeouts and one walk. Justin McPherson tossed one scoreless inning, compiling two strikeouts and one walk.
Thomas scored two runs in the second inning and six during the sixth to earn the win.
In the 5-4 victory, Siena Heights failed to hold onto a three-run seventh-inning lead, but eventually took the lead for good on a ninth-inning RBI single by Eric Henderson.
Henderson and Byers had two hits apiece while Drew Milligan scored two runs. Logan Curtis homered and Lollo tripled.
Milligan scored on a wild pitch and Curtis drove in Henderson with a groundout, putting the Saints up 2-0 in the first.
Siena Heights (3-2) tacked on solo runs in the fourth and fifth frames on a Curtis homer and Lollo sacrifice fly, respectively.
Thomas scored three runs on two hits to tie the game in the seventh, setting the stage for Henderson's go-ahead single in the ninth.
Travis Mielcarek started on the hill for Siena Heights, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out four batters and walked one.
Ben Finn worked two innings of scoreless relief to earn the win. He gave up one hit, struck out two batters, and walked one batter.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a pair of games. They will take on Bethel (Ind.) and Webber International (Fla.) on Webber's campus.
