Baseball Knocks Off Warner, Drops Pair to #14 Bellevue

AVON PARK, Fla., and LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team defeated host Warner (Fla.), 3-0, before dropping a pair of contests to 14th-ranked Bellevue (Neb.) at the Warner Invitational on Saturday. SHU lost to Bellevue by scores of 9-6 and 5-0. The latter game with Bellevue was the tournament championship game.

Siena Heights pitcher Brent Vaccaro tossed a six-hit shutout in the victory over Warner.

Joe Williams homered, Dan Muller tripled and Logan Curtis doubled in the win.

The Saints took the lead for good on an RBI single by Alec Duncan in the SHU second. Williams hit his dinger in the third and Eric Henderson smashed an RBI single during the fifth.

Siena Heights' first game against Bellevue was its final pool-play contest. The Saints held a 6-4 second-inning leader before allowing five unanswered runs.

Mike Lollo batted 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI. Williams doubled and drove in two runs.

SHU took the lead during its first inning on a Curtis sacrifice fly. Dennis Sharp Jr. added an RBI single, expanding the Saints lead to 2-0, but Bellevue quickly answered with four runs in its first.

The Saints tallied four more runs in the second frame, but the scoring for Siena Heights ended after that. Henderson and Loll contributed RBI singles in the inning before Williams cracked a two-run double.

Matt King was the losing pitcher. Justin McPherson threw 3 1/3 innings of solid relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while recording three strikeouts and one walk.

Siena Heights managed only two hits in the championship game -- singles by Lollo and Drew Milligan.

Travis Mielcarek was the losing pitcher and Nick Warner pitched 1 2/3 frames of scoreless relief.
