Vaccaro Solid on Hill as Baseball Splits Twinbill with Lourdes

TOLEDO, Ohio -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with Lourdes (Ohio) on Saturday. The Saints won game one, 3-1, before losing game two, 4-2.

In game one, Brent Vaccaro earned the win on the mound, giving up one run on eight hits while finishing with three strikeouts and one hit batsman. Jordan Basinger worked two scoreless innings -- giving up two hits and one walk -- and made the save.

At the plate, Joe Williams batted 3-for-3 while Dan Muller went 2-for-5 for the Saints.

Siena Heights opened the day with a three-run first inning. Mike Lollo and Nolan Herendeen had RBI singles during the frame.

Lourdes scored its only run during its half of the first.

Cole Fitzgerald went 2-for-4 with a double and RBI for the Gray Wolves. Jake Conklin added a double.

Frank Schaffer was the losing pitcher. He surrendered three runs on seven hits while totaling one walk and three hit batsmen. Brandon Holt fired one scoreless inning in relief.

In game two, Eric Henderson went 2-for-3 for SHU (16-26, 5-17). Thomas McCarter was the losing pitcher, allowing three runs (one earned) on eight hits. Tyler Butlin pitched one scoreless inning of relief.

The Saints jumped ahead on a Lollo RBI single in the first inning.

Lourdes answered with one run in the first and then two in the third to grab a 3-1 advantage.

Down 4-1, SHU scored its final run when Drew Byers crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

John Crooks led the Gray Wolf offense, going 3-for-4 with a double. Andy Kefalos added a 2-for-4 game with a double and RBI. Nick Toth also went 2-for-4 in support of winning pitcher Drew Lepiarz.

Lepiarz gave up one run on six hits while compilng one strikeout and two walks.

The Saints and Gray Wolves will meet again on Sunday for another WHAC doubleheader.
