Season Preview: Baseball

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's baseball team begins the 2022 regular season on the road Friday, February 18, to face Taylor University. The Saints meet the Trojans for a doubleheader with games at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. SHU aims to improve upon the final standings in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) standings from a year ago.

The Saints were chosen to finish eleventh in the 2022 WHAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released on Thursday, January 20.

LAST SEASON

Siena Heights finished 2021 with a 9-28 overall record and a 5-13 mark in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to finish eleventh in the conference standings. As a result, the team did not see the WHAC or NAIA tournament for the 2021 season.

2022 SEASON

This season has Siena Heights competing in 55 games during the regular season. In addition, the Saints have twelve home matches in March and six in April for 18 home contests. Home matches will be streamed on the SHU Saints YouTube page. Links for the video feed, live stats, and tickets for these contests can be found on the team's schedule page.

WHAC play will start at the Joseph K. McLaughlin Baseball Stadium when Rochester University comes to town on Saturday, March 26.

THE TEAM

The Saints return 2021 All WHAC– First Team, right-fielder sophomore Adam Wilding. The All WHAC Academic team member, sophomore relief pitcher Zach Bloom returns to play in the 2022 season. As well as 2021 All WHAC Academic team member, sophomore starting pitcher Parker Swartz. The blue and yellow have all starters from the 2021 season returning, including seven top returners and three top starting pitchers returning for the 2022 season. Siena Heights expects to have five top newcomers, three new catchers, a new shortstop, and one new right-handed pitcher.

THE COACHING STAFF

Head coach John Kolasinski returns for his 19th year at Siena Heights with 252 wins with 523 losses with the Saints, and an overall career record of 535-783-1. Coach Kolasinski took SHU baseball 9-28 overall in the 2021 season and 5-13 in the WHAC. Hunter Teunion-Smith and Jacob Jones both return as assistant coaches this season.
