Baseball Drops Both Contests to Mount Vernon Nazarene

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a pair of games against Mount Vernon Nazarene on Monday. The Saints fell in game one 2-1 and dropped the second game 5-0. 

The Saints (1-5) will return to action tomorrow vs Northwestern (Iowa) in non-conference doubleheader action at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. EST. 

Game One: Mount Vernon Nazarene 2, Siena Heights 1 

Caden Gomes went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the SHU offense. 

Christian Smolen went the distance on the mound, allowing one earned run off five hits while forcing six strikeouts and zero walks. 

SHU got on the board first after a Mac Melvin sacrifice fly at the top of the sixth. In the next at-bat, Mount Vernon Nazarene took the lead after a two RBI single to put Mount Vernon Nazarene ahead for good. 

Game two: Mount Vernon Nazarene 5, Siena Heights 0 

Devin Eads batted 2-for-3 to lead the Saints in game two. 

Guy Young started on the hill, he pitched four innings allowing four earned runs off five hits while compiling four strikeouts and one walk. Ethan Stines came in for relief working the last 3.2 innings striking out two batters.  

Mount Vernon Nazarene scored four runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth to seal it.
