AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a pair of games with Calumet on Thursday. The Saints came out on top in the first game 4-2 and fell in the second game 7-0.
The Saints will return to action on Friday vs Lawrence Tech. Game one will start at 9:30 a.m. EST and game two will start at 12:15 p.m. EST.
Game one: Siena Heights 4, Calumet 2
Caden Gomes led the SHU offense going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs. Brock Olmstead also added two hits.
On the mound, Chase Molnar was the winning pitcher working six innings allowing one earned run off of six hits while walking one batter and forcing two strikeouts. Benjamin Weadock came in for relief and worked the final two innings with one strikeout and was credited for the save.
Calumet took a two-run lead after a two-run second inning. In the third, the Saints offense caught fire as Kaleb Woods scored the first run for SHU as Caden Gomes tied the game after an RBI single. Gino Hutchinson grabbed the Saints' first lead after an unearned run to close out the inning scoring. The Saints scored once more in the sixth after Caden Gomes hit an RBI double.
Game two: Calumet 7, Siena Heights 0
Aidan Grinstead led the offense going 2-for-3 at the plate.
Garret Smith worked 5.2 innings allowing seven runs, 10 hits, and struck out nine batters.
Calumet scored three runs in the first four innings before exploding in the sixth with four more runs to down the Saints in game two.
