ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split with Lourdes in a non-conference double-header on Wednesday, winning game one 3-1, and dropping the second game 7-6.
The Saints will return to action on Saturday, April 26, vs Cornerstone at Joseph K. McLaughlin Stadium in a WHAC conference double-header.
Game One: Siena Heights 3, Lourdes 1
Carter Griffin batted a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Tim Polidor got the start on the hill, working three innings, striking out four batters while only allowing one hit. Christian Smolen came in for relief, working two scoreless innings. Ryan King came in the sixth, allowing one hit and walking one batter. Justen Tehse was credited with the save, working the final inning.
SHU plated two in the fifth with a two-RBI double. Lourdes scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Caden Gomes then recorded an RBI single to plate the Saints' final run.
Game Two: Lourdes 7, Siena Heights 6
Caden Gomes led SHU offensively, going 3-for-4 at the plate.
John Millen started on the hill, working the first two innings, allowing six hits off of three runs while forcing two strikeouts. Ethan Stines came in, working one inning, allowing one run and creating one strikeout. Nolan Gray then succeeded Stines on the mound, allowing one run. Jack Beyer then worked one scoreless frame. Pearson Mendiuk closed the game for SHU, allowing one earned run with two strikeouts.
Lourdes led 2-1 after the first two innings. Mac Melvin plated SHU's first run with an RBI single.
Lourdes proceeded to score runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to go ahead 5-1.
SHU tied the game in the fifth with two-RBI doubles from both Jack Semler and Justin Holton.
In the sixth, Lourdes regained the lead, plating one unearned run. Next at-bat, Melvin recorded an RBI to tie the game at six until Lourdes plated one run in the seventh and created one strikeout for the final out in the next at-bat to seal it.
