ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split WHAC doubleheader with Northwestern Ohio on Saturday at McLaughlin Field. Individual recaps are below.
Game 1: Siena Heights 6, Northwestern Ohio 5
Mason Mitchell batted 3-for-3 with three runs, including the game-winner, as SHU overcame UNOH's late five-run rally.
The Saints held a 5-0 lead before the Racers tied the contest with a 5-run sixth.
During the SHU sixth, Mitchell scored the go-ahead run, scoring on a groundball off the bat of Mac Melvin. Mitchell had reached with a 1-out single before moving up to third on a double by Joazef Del Rosario.
Mitchell had a sac fly and Del Rosario hit an RBI single, helping the Saints out to a 3-0 lead in the second. SHU had scored its first run on an UNOH error in the first.
Jack Semler added a two-run single in the fourth.
Melvin finished with a 2-for-3 game. Del Rosario was 2-for-2.
Starting pitcher went four shutout innings, allowing four hits while striking out two. Wyatt Burris was the winning pitcher. Evan Dempsey earned the save.
Game 2: Northwestern Ohio 21, Siena Heights 4
Jimmy Haranczak batted 2-for-2 with a run and RBI while Zander Zeiter went 2-for-3 with a double. Brady Belegrin was 2-for-4 with a run.
The Saints trailed 12-0 before getting its first run on an RBI single by Zeiter in the fourth.
During the 2-run fifth, Aidan Grinstead had an RBI groundout and Joseph Smith hit an RBI single.
Haranczak added an RBI single in sixth.
