ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team swept its final doubleheader at McLaughlin Field, clinching a playoff spot with a pair of wins against Lourdes on Saturday. Individual recaps are below.
Game 1: Siena Heights 8, Lourdes 4 (7 innings)
Winning pitcher Garret Smith went the distance, allowing four runs on nine hits while totaling two strikeouts and one walk.
Jack Semler batted 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs. Jaozef Del Rosario and Brady Belegrin added 2-for-3 games. Kaleb Woods tripled.
SHU built a 5-1 lead and then scored three insurance runs in the sixth after Lourdes closed within 5-4.
Zander Zeiter got SHU on the board with an RBI single before the Gray Wolves tied the game 1-1 in the third.
The Saints took the lead for good with a 4-run fourth. Vinny Smith drew a bases-loaded walk, Mac Melvin hit a sac fly and Semler delivered a two-run single.
Semler had an RBI single and Mason Baer smacked a two-run double in the sixth.
Game 2: Siena Heights 9, Lourdes 4 (9 innings)
Winning pitcher John Millen turned in a seven-inning performance, giving up one run on nine hits. He had eight strikeouts and one walk.
Melvin was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Belegrin batted 2-for-4 with a double and two runs. Baer tripled.
SHU built a 7-0 lead through the first six innings.
Baer had an RBI single in the second and Melvin and Holton contributed RBI singles in the third.
Smith added an RBI single in the fourth. During the fifth, Zeiter had an RBI single and Belegrin scored on a wild pitch.
After Lourdes scored its first run in the seventh, Blake Gant drew a bases-loaded walk and Kylian Mok drove in a run in SHU's 2-run seventh. The Wolves plated its last three runs in the ninth.
