Saints' Football Records Program's First Varsity Shutout

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights football team recorded its first varsity shutout in program history, taking a 30-0 decision over Waldorf (Iowa) in non-conference action at O'Laughlin Stadium on Saturday.

Defensive back Sederick A. Dunbar II had an interception, defensive linemen Kyle Connors and C.J. Mariousrecorded sacks, and leading tackler DeShawn Gilbert made 6 1/2 stops for the Saints' defense.

SHU outgained the visiting Warriors, 514-238, and did not commit a turnover. The Siena Heights defense, however, has takeaways in all 13 games of the program's varsity era.

For the SHU offense, running backs Raphael Dunson and Julius Taylor Jr. had long touchdown runs while quarterbackMatt King found wide receiver Reggie Blackmon for a TD pass. Kicker Victor Bodrie added three field goals.

Bodrie scored the first six points for Siena Heights, connecting on 23- and 21-yard kicks in the first quarter -- the latter coming after Dunbar's interception near midfield.

Taylor later scored on a 39-yard run in the second quarter, helping the Saints to a 13-0 halftime advantage.

SHU's two second-half touchdowns happened in the fourth quarter.

King found Blackmon with a 22-yard hookup before Dunson scampered for a 53-yard run for the game's final touchdown.

Taylor was the Saints' leading rusher, finishing with four carries for 74 yards. Fellow running back Travis Damron had 15 runs for 65 yards.

Tight end Donovan Campbell tied the SHU single-game record of eight receptions while setting a new record for yards receiving (123). He now has four eight-reception games.

Lyle Van Fleteren, also a tight end, had four catches for 85 yards, while King completed 17 of 23 passes for 238 yards.

Siena Heights (2-1) will return to action next Saturday with its final non-conference game of the regular season -- a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Olivet Nazarene (Ill.).
