BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The Siena Heights defense recorded three sacks and two interceptions while allowing only 10 yards rushing as the Saints' football team claimed its second consecutive shutout, defeating Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), 14-0, in a Mid-States Football Association crossover game on Saturday.
Defensive backs Fred Butler and DeShawn Gilbert had the Siena Heights interceptions while sacks were credited to defensive linemen Jordan Martin and Michael Vella and defensive back Keith Marshall Jr.
Linebacker Tyler Karcher was the Saints' leading tackler, finishing with five stops including one for a loss. Martin had 4 1/2 tackles (2 1/2 for-loss).
On offense, running back Travis Damron had 25 carries for 118 yards and one touchdown while quarterback Matt Kingcompleted 19 of 28 passes for 191 yards and a score.
Tight end Donovan Campbell was the leading receiver, finishing with six catches for 60 yards. Wide receiver Raphael Dunson added four grabs for 48 yards while fellow wide-out Reggie Blackmon came through with three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.
SHU (3-1) wasted little time in taking the lead as King and Damron led a 12-play, 92-yard march to paydirt, ending with a 13-yard run by Damron.
On the scoring drive, Damron had six carries for 39 yards and one reception for five yards.
Butler made his interception at the SHU 31-yard-line -- a key fourth-down play after the Saints were stopped on a 4th-and-1 try themselves.
Gilbert had a pair of strong plays himself in the latter stages. Late in the third quarter, he recovered a muffed punt at the Siena Heights 9-yard-line.
After the Saints expanded their advantage to 14-0 -- courtesy of a 13-play, 91-yard drive that ended with a five-yard pass from King to Blackmon -- Gilbert made a game-clinching interception on ONU's final possession in the fourth.
As a team, the Saints gained 442 yards on offense and achieved a single-game school record of 28 first downs. Defensively, SHU allowed 159 yards and only nine first downs.
ONU quarterback Ryan Sample went 16 of 30 for 149 yards and two scores. Wide receiver Rico Prestia had seven catches for 52 yards while fellow receiver Aaron Salas had five receptions for 50.
Tiger linebackers Mark Kosrow and Brandon Ruemler added 8 1/2 tackles each.
The Saints will play their next game at home against Saint Francis (Ind.), which is currently ranked second in the NAIA but will likely drop in rating due to its loss on Saturday to No. 7 Grand View (Iowa).
When SHU hosts the Cougars, it will also celebrate Homecoming. Kickoff is set for Oct. 5 at 1 p.m.
